Fall Session 2021: FAQs

1. What are rehearsal times for the fall session?

  • Debut Choir (grades K-2) – Choose either option:
    • In-person rehearsal:  Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30
    • Virtual rehearsal: Tuesdays, 5:45-6:30
  • Encore Choir (grade 3 through age 11) – Choose either option:
    • In-person rehearsal:  Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30
    • Virtual rehearsal:  Tuesdays, 5:45-6:45
  • Advanced Ensemble (age 12 – grade 12)
    • In-person rehearsal:  Tuesdays 7:00-8:30

2. What can singers expect from VIRTUAL rehearsals?

Our virtual rehearsals will continue in the exact same format our singers have enjoyed for the past year.  Singers rehearsing on Zoom will:

  • Learn music theory, vocal skills, solfege, and choreography
  • Build community and connection
  • Work on fall and holiday repertoire
  • Make friends and have a ton of fun!
  • Contribute audio and video recordings to be compiled into a virtual performance for December

3. What can singers expect from IN-PERSON rehearsals?

Our in-person rehearsals will generally run as they did pre-Covid, with the addition of strict adherence to our Covid-era safety procedures outlined in our Covid safety plan (more info below.) Singers rehearsing in person will:

  • Learn music theory, solfege, rhythm, vocal skills, and breath support.
  • Enjoy the camaraderie of working together to blend their voices and sing in harmony
  • Practice more complex choreography
  • Gain performance skills
  • Perform in at least one in-person concert

4. How are we ensuring the health and safety of our singers?

Read our complete Covid Safety Plan here. Note that our plan is MORE strict than the King County public health guidelines for choral singing (so our environment will have additional safety features beyond those required for school choirs, for example.)

Some essential elements of our safety plan include:

  • Mandatory temperature checks upon arrival to rehearsal
  • Minimum of 6′ between singers at all times
  • 3-layer medical masks required (we will provide if necessary)
  • Windows open at all times during rehearsal
  • Only singers and staff allowed in the rehearsal space
  • Vaccination mandated for all staff and volunteers
  • Vaccination requested for all singers of eligible age

5.  If a singer starts off in the virtual rehearsals, could they choose to switch to in-person partway through the session?

Possibly. This will be at Megan’s discretion, on a case-by-case basis. Singers in the two groups will be learning a different musical repertoire, so a singer who switched would have to be prepared to learn the new songs and take the time to catch up.

6. If a singer turns 12 partway through the session, can they switch to Advanced Ensemble at that time?

No. Singers who are age 11 as of September 7th will remain in Encore through the fall session.  If they turn 12 during the fall, they will move into Advanced Ensemble at the start of the winter session (in January, 2022.)
